In memory of Mel Soughton

Ovarian Cancer has severely impacted women in my family. In the 90’s we lost Nanny Phyllis to the disease, in 2019 my mum was diagnosed with it, having to undergo surgery and intense chemotherapy. Thanks to early intervention of the GP that sent her for tests, she has been clear for a number of years 💜

Devastatingly, early this year my sister Mel was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and she lost her short battle at the end of May. 

Mel was the life and soul of any party, the wise one anyone would turn to for advice, she loved her family and friends and would do anything for anyone. Fiercely competitive, she took on any challenge going. Over the years she’s raised thousands of pounds for various charities and causes. I’m going to have to channel that competitive spirit over the next months as I train for the marathon. Knowing she’d be telling me to get on with it will keep me going 😃

I’m taking part in the London Marathon 2027 to raise funds and awareness in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer, the UK's leading ovarian cancer charity. They target what’s important to stop ovarian cancer devastating lives – that means symptoms awareness, life-saving early diagnosis, better treatments and support for everyone affected by ovarian cancer.
