Why I’m fundraising...
This time last year, whilst enjoying my 50th birthday in Paris, my wife experienced some discomfort. Returning home she went to see her GP, and after some tests, she was put on the Ovarian Cancer journey. More tests / scans later and 9 tumours across both ovaries were found. These were removed in a radical hysterectomy the week before Christmas, the operation was not straightforward with one tumour rupturing and my wife needing resuscitation! The early indications from the surgeon were not good, we were told to prepare for the worst as there was a high chance the cancer had spread.
Throughout this period, the team at Target were brilliant! They understood all of my wife's concerns, they were supportive and full of empathy, they explained everything and genuinely cared. For me, as a husband I was able to support my wife by hugging and listening but to be honest, this was not my specialist subject, so I felt helpless in being able to support all her needs! I will be forever grateful to team Target for the peace of mind they gave me and the support they gave her during this very difficult time.
Thankfully the story has a happy ending, after new year my wife received the very unexpected news that the operation was a success, and she was cancer free!!
Running the London Marathon for team Target is my very small way of saying thank you and raising funds / awareness to such an amazing charity.
