Hello Everyone,
This year I'm lacing up my running shoes and taking on the challenge of running the London Marathon, but this race is about so much more than just crossing the finish line. I'm running for a cause that is close to my families heart; Raising awareness and funds for Target Ovarian Cancer, a charity that is dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by ovarian cancer.
Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed late, making it one of the deadliest cancers for women. The lack of early detection methods and the subtle symptoms contribute to late-stage diagnoses, and the impact on families is profound. It's something that has touched many lives including that of my beautiful Nan. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 2 years ago and was evidently a very hard time for her and us as a family to comprehend this information. Thankful to the work of this charity raising awareness and the amazing surgeons, she was declared cancer free in August last year, and this is the reason I will be running the marathon in April. She will be in my mind throughout the duration of the race, and the reason I will be pushing my body to the extreme to finish it and to see a smile on her face at the end.
I am aware that running a marathon is not easy, but it is nothing in comparison to the fight faced by those battling and having to deal with ovarian cancer. With every mile I run, I'm reminded of their strength, their courage, and the hope that with your donations, I can contribute to the research of new treatment methods and programmes that could potentially save lives.
