Why I’m fundraising...
I’m taking part in the Great North Run 2025 to raise funds and awareness in aid of the ‘Target Ovarian Cancer’ charity. I’m running in memory of my Auntie Imelda McQuaid who sadly passed away in January 2024 with Ovarian Cancer.
It is often referred to as the ‘silent killer’ because many of the symptoms – abdominal bloating, irregular bowel moments and pain – resemble menopausal symptoms or those of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). GPs and other generalist healthcare professionals might not immediately diagnose ovarian cancer and many women get undiagnosed for months.
This charity targets what is important to stop Ovarian Cancer devastating lives - that means better symptoms awareness, life-saving early diagnosis and better treatments and support for everyone affected by Ovarian Cancer.
I’m asking you to please support my fundraising so that together we can transform the future for everyone diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer.
Did you know?
* Over 7,000 women are diagnosed each year in the UK.
* Over 4,000 women lose their lives each year – that's 11 women every day.
* There are 41,000 women living with ovarian cancer in the UK.
* If diagnosed at the earliest stage, 9 in 10 women will survive.
* Two thirds of women are diagnosed late, when the cancer is harder to treat.
* Almost half of GPs (46%) mistakenly believe symptoms only present in the later stages of ovarian
