London Marathon 2027

Why I’m fundraising...

I’m running the London Marathon 2027 for Target Ovarian Cancer in memory of my mum, who was diagnosed at just 52 years old and sadly passed away in 2019.

I’ve supported the charity for several years, and now I’m taking on my biggest challenge yet. Running the London Marathon is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and doing it in Mum’s memory makes it especially important to me.

Alongside raising money, I want to help more people recognise the symptoms of ovarian cancer.

The signs can be difficult to recognise because they overlap with other conditions. They can be mistaken for IBS, digestive problems or changes associated with the menopause, which can delay diagnosis. Knowing what to look out for, and when to get checked, could make a real difference.

The main symptoms to look out for are:

* Bloating that persists: your tummy regularly feels swollen or stays bloated.
* Pain in your tummy or pelvic area.
* Getting full after eating only a little, or having less appetite than usual.
* Changes in how often you need to wee, or feeling a more urgent need to go.

Other possible symptoms include changes in bowel habits, such as constipation or diarrhoea, ongoing tiredness, unexplained weight loss and back pain. Unusual vaginal bleeding, particularly any bleeding after the menopause, should also be checked.

Please speak to your GP if you notice these symptoms, especially if they are new for you, keep happening or don’t go away. They will often have another cause, but it’s important to get them checked. If you’ve already seen your GP and the symptoms continue or worsen, go back.

If sharing Mum’s story encourages even one person to make that appointment, raising awareness through this challenge will have mattered.

I’d be so grateful for your support, whether that’s a donation, sharing this page or talking to someone about the symptoms. Your donations will help Target Ovarian Cancer fund research, work towards earlier diagnosis and support those affected by the disease.

Thank you for helping me do this in Mum’s memory.
