In rememberance…
I’m taking part in the 5k “Ovar-Dressed Walk|Run” on 29 June to raise funds in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer. My grandmother, Helen, was admitted to Ulster hospital for pain and draining fluid within. She was diagnosed in March with stage 4 ovarian cancer and quickly declined before her passing in May, aged 75. Typically, 70% of women live for one year after diagnosis, however, my wee granny’s time was cut short, having 6 weeks to live from her diagnosis which was shocking due to her prior history of no ailments and her healthy lifestyle. We watched as she could not eat anything for 7 weeks due to internal issues and watched as she relied on a drip for any sustenance… after losing my grandmother to this fatal reality and witnessing her everyday struggles I felt it necessary to try and contribute to alleviating at least one other family’s strife. The association try to target what’s important to stop ovarian cancer devastating lives –symptoms awareness, life-saving early diagnosis, better treatments and support for everyone affected by ovarian cancer.
