Why I'm fundraising...
I’m taking part in Ovar-Dressed London to raise funds and awareness in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer, the UK's leading ovarian cancer charity. They target what’s important to stop ovarian cancer devastating lives – that means symptoms awareness, life-saving early diagnosis, better treatments and support for everyone affected by ovarian cancer.
I am supporting Target Ovarian Cancer because I know only too well the importance of knowing the symptoms of ovarian cancer by women and GPs and the difficulties that come with a late diagnosis.
I was diagnosed late stage ovarian cancer in 2019, by which time the cancer had spread and I became very poorly very quickly. I was hospitalised and relied on the skill of the respiratory tea to drain and stabilise me to enable surgery to remove the tumour. Surgery was successful due to the skill of the gynaecology team but because the cancer had spread I needed to have chemotherapy. Chemotherapy though does not work for everyone and it also destroys healthy cells as well as the cancer cells. I was one of the lucky ones; the chemotherapy worked and I have been in remission since.
If I had been diagnosed earlier I would not have needed chemotherapy which although life saving was brutal in its side effects. Like many women I lost my hair which was so upsetting. I did not have great hair but the loss of it diminished me as a person and especially as a woman.
Since 2019 I have met so many great women with ovarian cancer and have lost many of them to ovarian cancer.
Please support my fundraising, to ensure less women have to go through what I went through.
Together we’ll transform the future for everyone diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
