London Marathon 2025

Why I’m fundraising...

I’m taking part in the London Marathon 2025 to raise funds and awareness in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer, the UK's leading ovarian cancer charity. They target what’s important to stop ovarian cancer devastating lives – that means symptoms awareness, life-saving early diagnosis, better treatments and support for everyone affected by ovarian cancer.

Please support my fundraising, and together we’ll transform the future for everyone diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Rose Shelley

Saturday 22nd Mar
I wanted to share a bit more about my grandmother Rose Shelley. Rose was born in Weston-Super-Mare in September 1945 to Lesley and Dorothy Hatherall. Her brother Stephen followed and the family moved to Cardiff, settling in Splott. Rose and her best friend Rose Scobie went to school in Cardiff and then Rose went onto Bangor University in North Wales where she met my grandfather Allan. Allan and Rose married and then moved to Coleraine in Northern Ireland and had their oldest child, and my uncle, Tom. Rose and Allan then moved to King's Lynn Norfolk where they added my mother, Alice and other uncle, Harry to their family. Rose had many interests including singing, supporting families through Home Start, and supporting the King's Lynn festival.

Rose was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer when she was 54, just before her first grandchild (me) was born. She lived to see my brother Evan follow in 2002, and then sadly died at 57, when I was 2 and Evan 8 months old.

She endured many rounds of chemotherapy and 2 operations and fought hard and bravely to live. She set herself the goal of seeing Evan and I every month, and even used to travel up with a rucksack and on the train and underground to see them. Sadly Rose did not live to see Morgan, Sebastian, Evelyne, Oliver, Albert and Hector, her younger grandchildren be born, but just like she did Evan and I, she would have doted upon them.

A cause close to my heart!

Friday 30th Aug
I chose to raise money for Target Ovarian Cancer because it is a cause very close to my heart. My Granny Rose, lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer when she was just 57 years old.

I am very lucky to have had even those few years I had with her as a child and I truly treasure them. So please do join me in giving and remembering Rose.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause, it means so much to me. Every donation counts!
