Why I’m fundraising...
I am taking part in the Great North Run 2026 as part of our team Jan Siop, raising funds and awareness for Target Ovarian Cancer. We are running in memory of Jan, a much loved mum, nan, wife, and friend, known to so many in her community as “Jan Siop.” She was Iwan’s nan, but she was also someone who meant so much to so many people.
Alongside her husband Pete, she owned Glynafon Stores in Llangrannog, a small village in West Wales, for many years. But to call it just a shop doesn’t do it just justice, it was the heart of the community.
Jan was the kind of person who was always there for others. Whether it was opening on Christmas Day for last minute essentials or simply being a friendly, familiar face to everyone who walked through the door, she gave so much of herself to the people around her. She was deeply loved, not only by her family but by an entire community who knew they could always rely on her.
Even during her illness, Jan’s warmth, strength, and energy never left. She continued to put others first, just as she always had.
Sadly, Jan passed away from ovarian cancer. Like many women, she had the illness for some time before it was diagnosed, and by then it was too late to treat effectively. This is something that happens far too often.
That’s why we are fundraising for Target Ovarian Cancer. The charity focuses on what matters most: raising awareness for symptoms, improving early diagnoses, funding better treatment, and supporting those affected. Everything we are doing is in the hope that fewer families have to go through what Jan and her loved ones did.
Jan spent her life giving to others. Running this race and raising money in her name is our way of giving something back.
If you are able to support us, thank you. Every donation, no matter the size, helps to make a difference.
Together, we can help transform the future for women affected by ovarian cancer.
